Google in search to sell its advertising to newspapers
After colonising cyberspace, Google is going into the newspaper business. The search engine giant is in talks with several newspaper publishers to sell space in their pages to its online clients.
This expansion will worry bosses of rival media companies, including ITV chairman Michael Grade, who has already called for greater regulation on the fast-growing Google.

Google Print Ads is an extension of Google AdWords, the auction system that lets companies bid for a slot that appears alongside specific online word searches.

ISPs collecting data on users, likely for behavioural ads

Internet service providers are collecting behavioural data on customers in order to cash in on online ad revenue, reports ClickZ.
According to the report, ISPs have either rolled out or are testing software that allows them to gather information about online behaviour. The data can be used to target ads delivered by the ISPs themselves.

Firefox flaw allows PayPal hack, says researcher

A potential flaw in the way Firefox web browser handles log-ons could be used by identity thieves to dupe users into disclosing passwords, a leading security researcher has warned.
According to Aviv Raff, an Israeli researcher, the flaw in Firefox 2.0.0.11 - Mozilla's latest version - could redirect the username and password entered by the user to the hacker's server instead of the real one. Visit Computer Weekly for more information. |

Is Open Source the future?
Kingpin Intelligence Research is conducting an in-depth study into the use of open source technologies in the UK.
The primary research, due for publication in March, will track the usage of open source technologies by UK developers, as well as their perception of open source vendors.
|
|
The audience for the research crosses all company sizes, vertical sectors and is split between developers who currently use and do not use open source technologies.
This survey will give an overview of the role open source technologies play in the UK software development marketplace and provide insight into developers’ perceptions of open source in the future.
Developers and Open Source is currently in field, and the final report is to be published in March 2008. If you would like any more information on this piece of research, please contact James Taylor at james@kingpin-intelligence.com.

Bicygnals

When you need to turn left or right, you need to let people know, which means lifting one hand off your handlebar and halving your control. Added to this lack of control is the fact that on a busy road, the only thing to let them know what you're doing is one frail arm flapping about, which at 30mph on a rainy night is more or less invisible to an alert car driver, let alone a tired one. Solution: indicators! Oh, and of course they're really rather cool.

Solar power charger

This slim and solid solar power charger is a great green way to restore power to your ailing appliances. From a full charge it will recharge most mobiles and MP3 players, with two hours of talk time or six hours of boogie time. If it's dismally grey out there you can even charge it up by USB and carry it with you as an emergency power pack. It's slim, solidly built and can be re-used up to 500 times, which is a heck of a lot of free power!
